ANNA-MARIA RENKEN IN NEW YORK

"I cried this morning thinking about what I'd done. It's just enormous. Something I'd tell my granddaughters. It's great, I'm very proud..."

The German sailor has completed her transatlantic race after three weeks at sea, a great challenge in very tough conditions

A fine course for the young German sailor Anna-Maria Renken (Nivea), who has had a tough time of it with five lows to contend with since leaving Plymouth. The solo sailor arrived off Sandy Hook on Monday at 22h 49' 25'' (i.e. Tuesday at 4h 49' 25'' French time) and took 21 days 13 hours 19 minutes 25 seconds to cover 3,995 miles at an average speed of 7.72 knots, i.e. 4d 00h 36' 29' behind the winner in the Class40 category.

That leaves just one competitor at sea, Japan's Hiroshi Kitada (Kiho), who this Tuesday morning was 130 miles from the finish: he should therefore arrive during the next American night. As for Loïck Peyron, back in Brittany, he is expected in La Baule on Thursday on Pen Duick II.
